Software update

Thursday, April 10, 2014.  Another software update today.  Even after a year of ownership, I continue to be impressed with the improvements Telsa can ship out via software updates. Here is the list of improvements with firmware 5.9:

Ready to download 5.9

Ready to download 5.9

WHAT’s IMPROVED:

  1. Smart Air Suspension (both HIGH settings work until a higher speed, auto-lowering speed can be chosen, LOW can be chosen manually at any speed – setting is saved in driver’s profile)
    • Air Suspension setting VERY HIGH now works until 22 mph / 35 km/h
    • Air Suspension setting HIGH now works until 34 mph / 55 km/h
    • Air Suspension setting LOW can be set to Never, Always, or to auto-lower at a certain speed between 80 km/h and 160 km/h
  2. Range calculation is improved (well, changed in any case)
This applies to Rated as well Ideal (Rated and Typical in Europe). People have gotten “more” range with 5.9. The new algorithm probably eliminates the drift in the previous range algorithm.
  3. Navigation System
    • A home and work location can be set
    • List of favorite locations (with an Edit button to delete entries)
    • List of visited charging stations (with an Edit button to delete entries)
    • “Heading Up” map view now shows the car arrow nearer the bottom of the screen, instead of in the middle
  4. Bluetooth reconnect improved (should reconnect now even if your device’s bluetooth was off when you entered the car)
  5. Web browser improved
    • the browser now supports the GeoLocation API
    • the browser feels a bit snappier (if I’m allowed to use that term); javascript speed has practically doubled
  6. Status bar in instrument panel is now easier to read with a bigger typeface (you asked for it, you got it!)
  7. Speedometer scale is now linear and goes up until 140 mph / 240 km/h (I wonder if we’ll get higher top speed next 😉
